There are a number of major projects in Australia using recycled water some including: Dora Creek WWTW where offsite reuse of all pollution at Eraring Power Station is used for boiler make-up water, cooling systems, cleaning and hosing down. Edgeworth WWTW NSW - Offsite effluent reuse at Oceanic Coal (Teralba Colliery) for coal washing and dust suppression, plus irrigation of nearby mine sites, fire fighting hosing down. Onsite pollution reuse for hosing down, screenings washing, grit washing, gravity drainage decks and polymer make-up is used at Kurri Kurri , Morpeth , Raymond Terrace and Shortland WWTW, NSW. Onsite effluent reuse for gravity drainage decks and belt filter presses is used at Boulder Bay and Toronto WWTW .
What is industry?
Industry is an economic activity concerned with the processing of raw materials and manufacture of goods in factories.
Separation and Purification
Once the water is separated out, 80% of the solids have been removed and the wastewater is clean enough to be discharged into the ocean. In secondary treatment, bacteria are added to the wastewater to ingest organic solids, producing secondary sludge that settles to the bottom. Once drawn from the groundwater or reservoir, the recycled water goes through the standard water purification process all drinking water undergoes to meet U.S. Enviromental Protection Agency standards.
Industry by-product
An industry by-product is something been produced (as in manufacturing) in addition to the main product. Example; Asphalt- from the refining of crude oil.
Cultral Issues
Agricultral crisis- Water withdrawals for irrigation represent 66% of the total withdrawals and up to 90% in arid regions, the other 34% being used by domestic households (10%), industry (20%) or evaporated from reservoirs (4%). Enviromental crisis- It is all the more critical that increased water use by humans does not only reduce the amount of water available for industrial and agricultural development but has a profound effect on aquatic ecosystems and their dependent species. An increase in tensions- As the resource is becoming scarce, tensions among different users may intensify, both at the national and international level. Over 260 river basins are shared by two or more countries
